All employers have a responsibility to protect their employees, contractors and visitors from accidents and injuries.

Employers are obliged to provide:

A safe place of work.
This means the workplace  must be kept in a safe and tidy condition. Employees should be provided with suitable work stations and floors and corridors should be kept clean and free from hazards. Doors and gates should not be obstructed. Appropriate signage should also be in place.

Safe system of work.
If you are employed to do a job, then how you do that job must be safe and free from danger. If you are employed to lift heavy objects, you should receive appropriate training to show you how to do this safely. You should be provided with proper training for all aspects of your job.

Suitable equipment.
Your employer should provide you with proper equipment. This might include safety clothing if required for your job, such as goggles, hard hats, ear defenders, dust masks, safety gloves, safety boots, high visibility jackets or the like. If you are required to use machinery or tools to complete your job, your employer is obliged to ensure that the machines and tools are maintained to a safe condition and free from danger.
